Nord Pool provides free market data for startups

06Nord Pool, Europe’s leading power market, is to provide a free energy market data kit for power sector startup businesses, in a bid to promote innovation and investment into the sector.

The new service for startups will see Nord Pool making all physical and operating data from its markets available to any energy sector business that has been operating for less than two years, has fewer than 15 staff and an annual turnover of less than 100,000 Euros.

Commenting on the new service, Nicholas Sharaf, Data and Analytical Services Manager at Nord Pool, said: «At Nord Pool we are well aware that the cost of obtaining important market data can deter small startups from investing in the energy sector. We are a business dedicated to the promotion of transparency and innovation in the power industry and we are very aware that access to accurate quality data from power markets can be expensive. Our view is that removing that cost barrier and helping to encourage new entrants to the sector is a ‘win-win’ for all involved.»

The free startup data kit data service was announced during the Slush forum, one of Europe’s biggest startup/tech events, on Thursday 30 November.
